ITI 2025: For TEAM ACORN!
Katsugi Okedo with San Jose Taiko
Note: this material is for Team Acorn and your groups only. Please do not re-post these materials to social media. Thank you.
Background: San Jose Taiko’s katsugi okedo style was initially influenced by Kodo who is credited with developing and stylizing the modern style of katsugi okedo playing. Kodo members (largely led by Leonard Eto) in the mid-late 80s took a lot of influence from Korean drumming (SamulNori) and African drumming. Over the past few decades SJT’s style of movement particularly its utilization of hara has had a big part in developing our own approach to this dynamic mobile instrument.
